 The
ESI Scheme is a unique multidimensional
self financing social security scheme
in which every contributor is a benefactor
and a beneficiary. This integrated scheme
of health insurance provides comprehensive
medical cover and cash benefits in the
contingencies of sickness, maternity,
disablement and death due to employment
injury to the Insured Persons and their
dependants.
Employees, employers, State Govts and
the Corporation are the major stake
holders in the system of organised
and coordinated effort providing
social protection to benefactors. The
role of employers, in particular remains
pivotal to the success of the scheme,
be it surveys for coverage, implementation,
registration
of factories/ establishments,
registration of employees, regular payment
of contribution, facilitating inspections
and timely action to ensure steady flow
of benefits to the employees.
